Silverchair - Neues Album

  • This was sent out as a bulletin from The Dissociatives Myspace page:
    1. Nick Launay is producing the album. He previously worked with the guys on Freak Show and Neon Ballroom.
    2. Paul Mac is helping out. In the compacity of mixing, writing, co-producing.
    3. The guys will be back in LA to mix the songs and add some final touches to the album in the next week or so.
    4. Late November/Early December is the estimated Australian release of the yet-to-be-titled new album. This is NOT an official date though, things can change and the album could be put back. Once we (the Disso myspace team) know the date you'll know it.
    5. The guys are reported to be in tip-top shape, physically. The guys are stoked about this album!

    tip-top shape, ah toll... ;)

  • Hi to all at Chairpage,

Well it has been a while since I wrote. Over the last 8 months we've been working on the new album on and off so I figured I should get back in touch and let you know how it's all coming along.

As you may have heard the three of us started making music together again late last year by going up to a place in the Hunter Valley (a wine growing region inland from Newcastle) where we could set up and make noise all day and not annoy anybody which was great! Dan had already done home demos for lots of new songs but this was the first time we had played them as a band and it was very exciting. I think we spent about 5 weeks up there and came back feeling really good about it.

We then had a bit of time to go away and get more familiar with the songs before we were to get together again and keep fine tuning things. This time we headed to a very quiet place in the middle of nowhere. We were just set up in the lounge room of this house playing together for hours everyday. It was really like coming full circle because we used to rehearse in our family's loungerooms when we first started jamming together as kids and here we were back making music just next to the kitchen.

There were regular swims in the dam on the property and we had camp fire dinners most nights out under the stars which was unreal. Paul Mac joined us up there to help add some keyboard stuff and he gave us occasional campfire lessons about the stars and planets ... thanks Mr Mac!

We then headed back into Sydney and into the studio to demo the new songs up and see where we were at. We did it all in just a few days so they were all pretty late nights.

After that we decided to do a few gigs because we hadn't played live since Waveaid and also it would give us a chance to play a few new ones before we got into the studio. We had a couple of weeks rehersal and did a warm up show in Sydney which was heaps of fun as we played lots of the new songs and friends and family there.

Then we headed off to L.A to finally record - everyone was really keen to get going. The studio was in the Valley and was literally in a garage out the back of a little house that we stayed in. There were a couple of weeks of pre-production. That's where Nick Launay (who's producing the album with Daniel) likes to try every possible way of doing a song until we're ready to kill him. A few new tunes came out of this process too which was good but meant it took us a bit longer than planned before we were ready to roll.

Once we finally got going all the rhythm tracks and main keys were recorded live which gave everything a really good band feel - we wanted to preserve the same great mood that the songs had when we'd played them in the lounge rooms of those remote houses back home.

After that we moved on to doing some extra guitars, keys, percusion, and some vocals. Van Dyke Parks is involved again on a few songs so he dropped in to kick around ideas a couple of times which is always very entertaining. We also managed to catch up with Little Birdy for a bite one night and had a few drinks with Chris and Myles from Wolfmother which was fun.

After about 8 weeks in L.A the majority of the album was in the can so Ben and I came back home and Dan went to Prague to help record the orchestral stuff for 3 days. Why Prague? Well there's a lot of great classical orchestras there and they charge a lot less than people do anywhere else plus it seemed like a good excuse to visit an amazing city!

As I write this Daniel is finishing up the last of his vocals and the plan is to start mixing in a week or two. At this stage we hope to have the album out before Christmas and to do a few shows around that release.

I'll write again when we know more about that but in the meantime ... thanks for your patience!

also: album noch vor ende des jahres!

  • gefällt mir eigentlich ganz gut, die single.. straight line weiterentwickelt und den sound verändert...

After fighting everything else got the volume turned down.
